ArcWeb Explorer Flex overview

ArcWeb Explorer (AWX) Flex API is designed for developers who want to get a working Web-based mapping application up and running without spending a significant amount of time developing code. The ArcWeb Explorer Flex API allows for easy and powerful ArcWeb integration inside Adobe Flex Builder; it allows developers to easily access all ArcWeb Services, as well as to customize or build applications like ArcWeb Explorer.

NOTE: The ArcWeb Explorer Flex API is designed specifically for use within Adobe Flex 2.01 with or without HotFix 1 (newer hot fixes are not supported). The ArcWeb Explorer Flex API is not designed for use within Adobe Flash Professional.

The ArcWeb Explorer application and Flex API are client-side and based on SOAP and REST functionality. All geocoding and routing are based on the Address Finder, Place Finder, and Route Finder SOAP Web services. Maps are either SOAP (Map Image group layers) or REST (vector and REST tile group layers). Thematic maps and reports use SOAP Map Image and Report services.

With ArcWeb Explorer Flex API, you can use a mapping application such as ArcWeb Explorer, or you can connect directly to ArcWeb Web Services such as Address Finder, Place Finder, and Spatial Query. Using the Spatial Query service, you can query all Spatial Query data sources: point, line, and polygon.

Access and authentication

To use ArcWeb Explorer JavaScript with ArcWeb Services, you need a Commercial or Public Services license to ArcWeb Services. Most ArcWeb requests consume credits from a user account. See Understanding credits and costs for more information.

ArcWeb Services uses authentication to validate access to its services and data. See the authentication section for details.
