Stereographic projection -- Used by the USGS for Arctic and Antarctic maps. The oblique aspect has been used to map circular regions on the moon, Mars, and Mercury. Probably first used by the Egyptians. Perspective. Conformal. Azimuthal (preserve direction from center) Scale increases as you move away from center.
